The Seeing Crystals
Part One
Loud currents of rushing water splashed against the high cliffs.
On the river I floated into dreams as an observer, a participant, and unencumbered spirit of the dreamtime.
All at once.
With sudden awareness, my eye twitched and alerted me.
Out of that moving river I land on the pillowed feathers of my comforter.
Awake now, in my bed,
the night is still dark and the air cool.
Immediately, I close my eyes.
Edges of hardened sleep particles brush against my corneas.
“Oh! Not that again.”
Without looking, I reach for eyedrops.
Slowly the moisture helps my eyelids part.
Hardened bits wash out the corners of my eyes.
Barely audible, a voice gently whispers, “the river water is doing its work.”
Surprised by the voice, I scan the room and focus.
An outline forms in the darkness outside of the bedroom slider.
She faces me, waiting.
“Your eyes remain in good health.”
Her headdress is all I see.
One side swirls with little ponds of water.
The other side shimmers with tiny portals.
Where they lead, I don’t know.
“The little things you feel in your eyes have become Seeing Crystals.
They will help you.”
Not fully understanding her words, I sit up in bed.
“They’re bothersome.
I find those hardened bits in my eyes ..…
She interrupts my complaint.
“Yes, you’re right.
They’re irritants that wake you up.
And finally, tonight, they led you to me.
She is a stunning sight at ten feet tall.
A night breeze cools me as she turns away.
Water moves with a swish around the whirlpools of her headdress.
As if reading my thoughts, she turns to face me again.
“This headdress belongs to you, it’s created by you.”
With eyes blinking and head shaking I speak.
“You’re mistaken, I can’t create anything like that.”
“If you say so.
But be careful.
When you deny the things you can create, they can’t help you.”
The sound of the tiny whirlpools in her headdress swirl as they spin above her.
She continues. “Don’t you remember?
You paint for connection to your inner world.”
With her hand on her heart, she announces.
“The travel will be worth it!
Within the edges of your canvas, we can now find your best vision together.
The Seeing Crystals are our tool.
I am your guide and you are my guide.”
She began to drift away languidly.
“I am full. Chocolate and cinnamon always satisfy me.
Do you feel the excitement from the cinnamon?
Do you feel the love from the chocolate?
Travel is easier when I eat those things.”
“I don’t eat chocolate!
I can’t stop at one serving.
It causes weight gain and sluggishness.”
“If you say so.”
The warning in her voice trails off into the night.
I call out to her.
“What are Seeing Crystals?”
She’s already gone.
